27. Hœresum magistri mentes quas occupantcorrumpunt. — Tinea sibi domum corrumpendoædificat. Nec meliori potuit comparatione hæreticus demonstrari, qui locumsuæ perfidiænon nisi in mentibus quas corruperit facit, qui etiam sequaces suos ab æterno igne liberesesse pollicetur. Spondet qui, pe eis refrigeriumquitis æternæsed verba ejus soliditatem non habent, quia plenitudine veritaiis carent. Unde subjungitur: Et sicut custos f dt umbraculum. Umbraculum namque custodis nullo fundamentosolidatur, sed tempore mox transeunte destruitur. Et promissa ab hæreticis reques568 cumtempore destruiturquæ post hanc vitam nullatenus invenitur.
27. The masters of heresies corrupt the minds which they occupy. — 「The moth buildeth itself a house by corrupting.」 Nor could the heretic be shown by a better comparison, who makes a place for his perfidy only in the minds which he has corrupted, who also promises his followers to be free from eternal fire. He pledges to them a refreshment as it were of eternal rest; but his words have no solidity, because they lack the fullness of truth. Whence it is subjoined: 「And like a watchman that maketh a booth.」 For the watchman's booth is founded upon no foundation, but is soon destroyed as time passes by. And the repose promised by the heretics is in time destroyed, which after this life is nowhere found.

Et quia saepe hæretici in contemptu universalis Ec- I clesiae potentum sæculi patrociniis fulciuntur, eisque divites protectione atque administratione quanta prævalent opitulari non cessant, ipse a etiam quilibet conira conditorem suum rebus temporalibus intumescens sanctiviri nunc sententia tangitur, atque ab speciali hæreticorum interitu ad generalem clatorum omnium definitionem seruio derivatur, cum subditur:
And because often heretics, in contempt of the universal Church, are propped up by the patronage of the powerful of the world, and the rich do not cease to aid them with as much protection and management as they can prevail with, whoever likewise swells up against his Creator with temporal things is now touched by the holy man's sentence, and from the particular destruction of heretics the discourse is drawn on to a general definition of all the puffed-up, when it is subjoined:
