V ers. 10. Qui facit magna, et inscrutabilia, et mirabilia, quorum non est numerus. 19. Dei opera facundius obstupescendo quam lo- quendo laudamus. Divinae fortitudinis facta tunc venus explemus, cum haec nos explere non posse co- gnoscimus; tunc facundius loquimur, cum ab his ob- stupescendo reticemus. Ad narranda quippe Dei opera habet defectus noster, quam sufficienter exerat lin- guam suam, ut quae comprehendere idonee non valet, haec idonee mutus laudet. Unde bene per Psalmistam dicitur: Laudate eum in potentatibus ejus, laudate eum secundum multitudinem magnitudinis ejus (Psal. cl, 2).
Verse 10. Who doeth great things and unsearchable and wonderful things, whereof there is no number. 19. We praise the works of God more eloquently by being astonished than by speaking. We fulfill the deeds of the divine might more worthily when we recognize that we cannot fulfill them; we speak the more eloquently when we fall silent in astonishment before them. For our failing possesses a tongue whereby to declare the works of God sufficiently, so that the things it is not competent to comprehend, these it may fittingly praise by being mute. Whence it is well said through the Psalmist: Praise him in his mighty acts, praise him according to the multitude of his greatness (Psalm 150:2).
第十節。祂行大事，行不可測度、奇妙的事，其數無窮。第十九節。我們讚美神的作為，靠驚歎勝過靠言語。當我們認識到自己無法完成神大能的作為時，我們反而更配得地成全了它們；當我們在驚歎中默然無言時，我們反而說得更雄辯。因為我們的力不能及，恰恰擁有一種舌頭足以宣揚神的作為，使那它無力妥善領會的事，能藉著緘默而恰當地讚頌。故此藉詩人美言說：要因祂大能的作為讚美祂，按著祂極美的大德讚美祂（詩篇一百五十篇2節）。

Ille quippe Dominum secundum multi- tudinem magnitudinis ejus laudat, qui se succumbere in ejus laudis expletione considerat. Dicat ergo: Qui facit magna, et inscrutabilia, et mirabilia, quorum non est numerus, videlicet magna virtute, inscrutabi- lia ratione, innumerabilia multiplicitate. Divina ergo opera, quae explere dicendo non potuit, facundius deficiendo definivit. Sed in consideratione rerum cur longe extra nos ducimur, qui hoc ipsum quoqne quod erga nos agitur ignoramus? Unde et apte sub- jungitur:
For that man praises the Lord according to the multitude of his greatness who considers that he falls short in the accomplishment of his praise. Let him say therefore: Who doeth great things and unsearchable and wonderful things, whereof there is no number—namely, great in power, unsearchable in reason, innumerable in their manifoldness. The divine works, therefore, which he could not accomplish by speaking, he the more eloquently defined by failing. But in the contemplation of things, why are we led far outside ourselves, we who are ignorant even of this very thing which is wrought within us? Whence also fittingly it is subjoined:
