V ers. 14. — Cum expleverit in me voluntatem suam, et alia multa similia praesto sunt ei. 49. Ex his quae patimur, formidare discimus quae non- dum passi sumus. —Ac si aperte dicat: Jam perpendo quae patior, sed adhuc formido quae pati possum. Explet enim in me voluntatem suam, quia multis me a per- cussionibus affligit. Sed multa similia praesto sunt ei, quia si ferire cogitat, adhuc invenit ubi plaga crescat. Hinc itaque pensandum estquam pavidus ante flagellum fuit, qui etiam percussus adhuc metuit ne feriatur· Incomprehensibilem quippe vim ei inesse considerans et potestatis et examinis, esse vir justus noluit nec de flagello securus. Unde adhuc metuens adjungit:
Verse 14. — When He shall have fulfilled His will in me, and many other like things are ready with Him. 49. From the things we suffer we learn to dread the things we have not yet suffered. — As if he openly said: Already I weigh what I suffer, but still I dread what I may suffer. For He fulfills His will in me, because He afflicts me with many strokes. But many like things are ready with Him, because if He purposes to strike, He still finds where the wound may grow. Hence therefore it is to be considered how fearful he was before the scourge, who, even stricken, still fears lest he be struck. For considering that there is in Him an incomprehensible force both of power and of examination, the righteous man was not willing to be secure even amid the scourge. Whence, still fearing, he adds:
第十四節。——「祂在我身上成就祂的旨意之後,還有許多類似的事在祂那裡預備好了。」四十九、我們從所受的苦,學會懼怕那尚未受的。——彷彿他明白地說:我已在衡量我所受的,卻仍懼怕我可能要受的。因為祂在我身上成就祂的旨意,因祂用許多擊打苦待我。但還有許多類似的事在祂那裡預備好了,因為祂若定意擊打,仍能尋出傷口加深之處。因此當思想:他在受鞭之先何等畏懼,以致連受了擊打仍懼怕再被擊打。因為他思量到祂裡面有一種不可測度的能力,既是權能又是查究的能力,義人便不願在鞭打之中仍高枕無憂。因此他仍懼怕地接著說:
