49. Eorum filii ad sacras Scripturae pastum pergunt. Eos Verbum ex natura divinitatis illustrat. — Pastum Scriptura sacra illud viriditatis aeternae pabulum vocat, ubi jam nostra refectio nullius defectus ariditate marcescet. De quo pastu per Psalmistam dicitur: Dominus regit me, et nihil mihi deerit, in loco pascuce ibi me collocavit (Psal. XXII, 2). Et rursum: Noa autem A populus ejus, et oves pascuæ ejus (Psal. XCIV; 7). De quibus nimirum pascuis Veritas per semetipsam dicit: Per me si quis introierit, salvabitur; et ingredietur, et egredietur, et pascua inveniet (Joan. x, 9). Pergunt ergo ad pastum, quia de corporibus exeuntes illa pabula internæ viriditatis inveniunt.

49. Their sons go forth to the pasture of Holy Scripture. The Word illumines them out of the nature of the Godhead. — Holy Scripture calls that pasture the food of eternal green freshness, where now our refreshment shall not wither with the dryness of any lack. Of which pasture it is said through the Psalmist: 'The Lord rules me, and I shall want nothing; in the place of pasture there he has set me' (Psalm xxii, 2). And again: 'But we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture' (Psalm xciv, 7). Of which pastures indeed the Truth says through himself: 'By me if any man enter in, he shall be saved; and he shall go in, and go out, and shall find pastures' (John x, 9). They go forth therefore to the pasture, because departing from their bodies they find those foods of inner green freshness.

Egrediuntur, et non revertuntur ad eas, quia in illa suscepti contemplatione gaudiorum, jam nullatenus indigent verba audire docentium. Egressi itaque ad eas jam non redeunt, quia angustias vitæ praesentis evadentes, ultra a doctoribus prædicationem vitæ accipere non requirunt. Tunc quippe impletur quod scriptum est: Non docebit ultra vir proximum suum, et vir fratrem suum, dicens: Cognosce Dominum; I omnes enim cognoscent me a mitiimo eorum usque ad maximum, dicit Dominus (Jerem. xxxi, 34). Tunc impletur. quod in Evangelio Veritas dicit: Palam de Patre b meo annuntiabo vobis (Joan. xvi, 25).

They go out, and do not return to them, because taken up in that contemplation of joys, they no longer at all need to hear the words of those teaching. Having gone out to them, they no longer return, because escaping the straits of the present life, they no more require to receive the preaching of life from teachers. For then indeed is fulfilled that which is written: 'A man shall no more teach his neighbour, and a man his brother, saying, Know the Lord; for all shall know me from the least of them even to the greatest, says the Lord' (Jer. xxxi, 34). Then is fulfilled that which the Truth says in the Gospel: 'Openly I will announce to you of my Father' (John xvi, 25).

Filius quippe de Patre palam annuntiat, quia sicut superius diximus, per hoc quod Verbutn est, ex natura nos divinitatis illustrat. Verba enim tunc docentium quasi quosdam humanae linguae rivulos nun quaerunt, quando de ipso jam veritatis c fonte derivantur. Igitur postquam figurata incurvatione cervarum, multa de magistrorum virtute narrata sunt, 979 nunc ad eorum vitam, qui remotae conversationis secreta appetunt, verba vertuntur: qui et ipsa d cessandi otia, quia divino adjutorio et non suis viribus assequuntur, de eis a Domino dicilur:

For the Son openly announces of the Father, because, as we said above, through this that he is the Word, he illumines us out of the nature of the Godhead. For then they no longer seek the words of those teaching, as certain little streams of human tongue, when they are already derived from the very fountain of truth itself. Therefore, after by the figurative bending down of the hinds many things concerning the virtue of teachers have been narrated, now the words are turned to the life of those who seek the secrets of a remote manner of life; and concerning their very leisures of ceasing, because they attain them by divine help and not by their own strength, it is said of them by the Lord:
