VERS. 12. — Vere enim Deus non condemnabit fru stra, nec Omnipotens subvertet judicium. 45. Justa Dei judicia, etsi occulta. — Ad diabolum Dominus dicit: Commovisti me adversus eum, ut afjlgerem eum frustra (Job. a, 5). Eliu autem dicit: Quia non condemnabit Domitus fruttra. Quod utique discordare dictis Veritatis creditur, nisi subtili consideratione pensetur. Aliud namque est damnare, aliud affligere. Affligit ergo juxta aliquid frustra, sed frustra non damnat. An non juxta aliquid frustra Job afflixerat, b cum non delebaturivitium, sed meritum augebatur?
Verse 12. — For truly God will not condemn without cause, nor will the Almighty subvert judgment. 45. God's judgments are just, even though hidden. — To the devil the Lord says: You moved me against him, that I should afflict him without cause (Job 2:3). But Elihu says: For the Lord will not condemn without cause. This indeed is thought to be at variance with the words of Truth, unless it be weighed with subtle consideration. For it is one thing to condemn, another to afflict. He afflicts, therefore, in some respect without cause, but he does not condemn without cause. Or did he not in some respect afflict Job without cause, when no vice was being blotted out, but his merit was being increased?
第十二節——因為神實不無故定罪，全能者也不顛倒公理。45. 神的審判雖隱密，卻是公義的。——主對魔鬼說：你激動我攻擊他，叫我無故苦害他（約伯記二3）。但以利戶說：主必不無故定罪。這話若不以精細的思量來衡量，便被認為與真理之言相牴觸。因為定罪是一回事，苦害又是另一回事。所以神在某方面無故地苦害，卻不無故地定罪。約伯身上並無罪惡被塗抹，反而他的功德被增加，神豈不是在某方面無故地苦害了他嗎？

Frustra enim condemnare non potest, quia damnatio fieri non ex parte ad aliquid potest, quae videlicet in extremo punit omne quod hic quisque inique commiserit. Nec omnipotens Deus subvertit judicium, quia etsi minus recta videntur esse quae patimur, recte tamen a in occulto examine decernuntur. Sequitur:
For he cannot condemn without cause, because condemnation cannot be done in part with regard to something, seeing that at the last it punishes all that anyone has here iniquitously committed. Nor does the Almighty God subvert judgment, because although the things we suffer seem to be less right, yet they are rightly decreed in his hidden examination. There follows:
因為神不能無故定罪，蓋定罪不能就某部分而言只針對某事，因為定罪乃在末後懲罰各人在此所犯的一切罪孽。全能的神也不顛倒公理，因為我們所受的雖看似不甚公正，卻在他隱密的察驗中被公義地判定。接著說：
