24. Futuri judicii comminationen: irridet, inde fa- ctus crudelior. — Contra Leviathan enim Dominus hastam vibrat, quia in ejus illteritu districtam minatur sententiam. Hastam quippe vibrare est æternam ei mortem ex districta animadversione præparare. Sed apostata spiritus auctorem vitæ etiam cum sua mortedespiciens, hastam vibrantem deridet, quia ei districto judicio quidquid grave, f quidquid horribile esse praevidet, pati non metuit; sed quo se aeterna tormenta non posse. evadere conspicit, eo in exercenda nequitia durior assurgit.
24. He derides the threat of the future judgment, and is thereby made more cruel. For against Leviathan the Lord brandishes a spear, because in his destruction He threatens a strict sentence. For to brandish a spear is to prepare for him eternal death out of strict visitation. But the apostate spirit, despising the Author of life even with his own death, derides the One brandishing the spear, because by strict judgment he does not fear to suffer whatever grave, whatever horrible thing he foresees; but the more he perceives that he cannot escape the eternal torments, the harder he rises up in the exercise of wickedness.
二十四、牠嗤笑將來審判的威嚇，因此變得更加兇殘。因為主向利維坦揮舞長槍，因為在牠的毀滅中，主威嚇要施行嚴厲的判決。因為揮舞長槍，就是從嚴厲的懲罰中為牠預備永遠的死亡。但這叛教的靈，連同自己的死亡也藐視生命的創始者，牠嗤笑那揮槍的一位，因為凡牠預見在嚴厲審判中一切沉重、一切可怕的事，牠都不懼怕承受；反倒越察覺自己無法逃脫永刑，就越在施行惡事上剛硬地挺立。

Quem cum plerique hujus mundi sapientes in cunctis quæ appetit tanta pertinacia, 8 tanta fortitudine stringi considerant, corda sua ad famulatum ejus tyrannidis inc!!nant, et omne quod Deo largiente sapiunt, hoc cuntra eum ad servitium hostis illius innectunt. Unde et recte subditur:
When very many of the wise men of this world consider that he is bound with such pertinacity, with such strength, in all the things he desires, they incline their hearts to the service of his tyranny, and all that they know by God's bestowing, this against Him they weave together for the service of that enemy. Whence it is rightly added:
