V ers. 14. Quantus ergo ego sum, ut respondeam ei, et loquar verbis meis cum eo? 27. De judiciis Dei disputare non possunt, qui pon- dere corruptionis premuntur.—Ac si aperte dicat: Si creatura illa hunc considerare non sufficit, quae carne non premitur, qua mente de ejus ego judiciis disputo, qui pondere corruptionis angustor? Sicut autem saepe ad nos verba Dei sunt judicia illius, quae nostrorum actuum sententiam loquuntur, ita verba nostra ad Deum sunt opera quae exhibemus. Sed cum Deo loqui verbis suis homo non valet, quia apud subtile ejus judicium nullam de suis actibus fiduciam tenet. Unde et apte subditur:
Verse 14. How much am I then, that I should answer him, and speak my words with him? 27. They cannot dispute concerning the judgments of God who are pressed by the weight of corruption.—As if he openly said: If that creature which is not pressed by flesh is not sufficient to consider him, with what mind do I dispute concerning his judgments, I who am straitened by the weight of corruption? But just as often the words of God toward us are his judgments, which speak the sentence of our deeds, so our words toward God are the works which we exhibit. But man is not able to speak with God in his own words, because before his subtle judgment he holds no confidence concerning his own acts. Whence also fittingly it is subjoined:
第十四節。既是這樣，我怎能回答祂，怎能與祂用言語辯論呢？第二十七節。被敗壞之重擔所壓的人，不能議論神的審判。彷彿他明明地說：若那不受肉體所壓的受造之物尚且不足以思量祂，我這被敗壞之重擔所困之人，又憑什麼樣的心思去議論祂的審判呢？然而，正如神向我們的言語往往就是祂的審判，宣告我們行為的判決；照樣，我們向神的言語就是我們所呈現的作為。但人不能用自己的言語與神說話，因為在祂精細的審判面前，他對自己的行為毫無自恃。故此恰當地接著說：
