He is burned together with those joined to him by the torches of carnal desires.—For if he joined to himself certain men seeking the eternal country, he would have green branches in himself. But because those also who are joined to him burn with earthly desires, and while the flame of desires kindles the minds of his dependents, it dries up, namely, his branches, so that they bear not the fruit of good work, because through wickedness they pant after the pursuit of things lowest.
