V ers. 11. — Iratus est contra me furor ejus, et sic me habuit quasi hostem suum. 45. Quosdam ferit Deus tanquam filios, alios tan- quam hostes. — Praedicatore quippe egregio atte- stante dicimus quia fidelis est Deus, et non patietur nos tentari supra id quod possumus ferre, sed faciet cum tentatione proventum, ut possimus sustinere ( I Cor. x, 13). Per prophetam quoque Dominus di- cit: Plaga inimici percussi(??)te, castigatione crudeli ( Jerem. xxx, 14). Qui ergo ita percutitur, ut vires illius a percussione superentur, non hunc Dominus jam quasi filium per disciplinam, sed quasi hostem per iram ferit.
Verse 11. — 'His fury is kindled against me, and He has held me as His enemy.' 45. Some God strikes as sons, others as enemies. — For, with the eminent Preacher bearing witness, we say that God is faithful, and will not suffer us to be tempted above that which we are able to bear, but will with the temptation make also a way of escape, that we may be able to endure it (1 Cor. 10:13). Through the Prophet also the Lord says: 'I have smitten thee with the wound of an enemy, with cruel chastisement' (Jer. 30:14). He, therefore, who is so struck that his strength is overcome by the striking — him the Lord smites not now as a son through discipline, but as an enemy through wrath.
第11節——「祂的烈怒向我發作，把我當作祂的仇敵。」45. 神擊打有些人如同兒子，擊打另一些人如同仇敵。——因為，有那卓越的傳道者作見證，我們說神是信實的，必不叫我們受試探過於我們所能承受的，在受試探時總要給我們開一條出路，叫我們能忍受得住（哥林多前書十章13節）。主藉先知也說：「我以仇敵的傷擊打你，以殘忍的責罰懲治你」（耶利米書三十章14節）。因此，那被擊打到力量被擊打所勝過的人——主擊打他，不再是如兒子藉管教，而是如仇敵藉忿怒。

Cum ergo virtutem nostra patientiae flagella transeunt, valde metuendum est ne, peccatis nostris exigentibus, non jam quasi filii a patre, sed quasi hostes a Domino feriamur. Et quia fit plerum- que ut etiam maligni spiritus afflictorum cordibus multa suadeant, atque inter flagella quae exterius feriunt cogitationes noxias in mentibus fundant, post furorem Domini recte subjungitur:
When, therefore, the scourges pass beyond our strength of patience, it is greatly to be feared lest, our sins demanding it, we be smitten no longer as sons by a Father, but as enemies by the Lord. And because it often happens that even malignant spirits urge many things upon the hearts of the afflicted, and amid the scourges that strike outwardly pour noxious thoughts into their minds, after the fury of the Lord it is rightly subjoined:
因此，當鞭打超過我們忍耐的力量時，就大大當懼怕，惟恐因我們的罪之所要求，我們不再如兒子被父擊打，而是如仇敵被主擊打。又因常有這樣的事：連惡靈也向受苦者的心慫恿許多事，並在那向外擊打的鞭笞之間，將有害的意念注入他們的心思，因此在論主的烈怒之後，正確地接下去說：
