Verse 7. — But what shall I do? If I speak, my sorrow will not be stilled; and if I keep silent, it will not depart from me. 8. The sorrow of the Church when she beholds the depraved rebuked in vain. — How this fits the person of blessed Job no one is ignorant. But if it be drawn to the type of holy Church, she both, when she speaks, has her sorrow by no means stilled, when she beholds the perverse by no means corrected by her speech; and when she keeps silent, her sorrow by no means departs, because even if, turned away, she has fallen silent, she groans the more over this very thing, that she is silent, since she beholds the faults of the perverse increasing while she is silent.
