22. Contraeun. et Antichristum sanctorum robur videtur stipula. Nihil tamen contra corum, animam po test — Quid per fundam, nisi sancta Ecclesia Iguratur? funda namque dum in gyrum mittitur, a sic de iila lapides exeunt quibus adversariorum pectora feriantur; ita sancta Ecclesia dum volubilitate temporum per tribulationum circuitum ducitur, fortes ex illa viri prodeunt quibus quasi lapideis ictibus iniquorum corda tundantur. Unde ad prophetam de bonis doctoribus Dominus dicit: Devorabunt, et sub- jicient lapidibus fundæ (Zach. II, 15). Sancti quippe doctores qui ad virtutem et alios instruunt, hostes devorant, dum eos intra corpus suum per vim b corrversiouis immutant. Quos lapidibus funda:
22. Against Antichrist the strength of the saints seems as stubble; yet he can do nothing against their soul. What is figured by the sling but the holy Church? For a sling, while it is whirled about, so from it go forth the stones by which the breasts of the adversaries are struck; even so the holy Church, while she is led by the turning of the times through the circuit of tribulations, brings forth from herself strong men by whom, as by stony blows, the hearts of the wicked are battered. Whence the Lord says to the prophet concerning good teachers: 「They shall devour, and subdue with the stones of the sling」 (Zechariah 9:15). For holy teachers, who instruct others also unto virtue, devour their enemies, while they transform them within their own body by the force of conversion. Omnem quippe tunc fortitudinem suae iniquhatis exercens, quanto se ab cis vinci spiritaliter dolel, tanto atrocius contra eos corporaliter prævalet. Et quia nil se contra eorum spiritum prævalere considerat, in eorum carne crudelitatis suae onmia argumenta consummat. [Vec. For then, exercising all the strength of his iniquity, the more he grieves to be spiritually conquered by them, the more atrociously does he prevail against them corporally. And because he considers that he can prevail nothing against their spirit, in their flesh he consummates all the devices of his cruelty.
