V ers. 15. — Etiamsi occiderit me, in ipso sperabo. 47. Justus Deum etiam in adversis laudat. — Nun- quam est patientiae virtus in prosperis. Ille autem vere est patiens, qui et adversis atteritur, a et tamen a spei suae rectitudine non curvatur. b De reprobi namque sensu scriptum est: Et confitebitur tibi cum benefeceris ei ( Psal. xlviii, 19). In hoc itaque mens justa ab injusta discernitur, quod omnipotentis Dei laudem et inter adversa confitetur, quod non cum rebus frangitur, non cum casu gloriae exterioris cadit, sed in hoc magis qualis cum rebus fuerit demonstrat, quae et sine rebus robustior stat. Sequitur:
Verse 15: 'Even though He should slay me, in Him will I hope.' 47. The just man praises God even in adversities. — The virtue of patience is never in prosperity. But he is truly patient who is both ground down by adversities, and yet is not bent from the rectitude of his hope. For concerning the sense of the reprobate it is written: 'And he will praise You when You do him good' (Ps. 49:18). In this, then, the just mind is distinguished from the unjust, that it confesses the praise of Almighty God even amid adversities, that it is not broken with its goods, nor falls with the fall of outward glory, but rather in this shows what it will be with its goods — that which stands the more robust even without goods. There follows:
第十五節：「祂雖殺我，我仍要仰望祂。」四十七、義人即使在逆境中也讚美神。——忍耐的美德絕不在順境中。惟有那既被逆境磨碎、卻仍不從盼望之正直上偏離的人，才是真正忍耐的。因為論到被棄者的心思，經上記著說：「你若善待他，他必稱讚你」（詩四十九18）。所以，義人的心思與不義者的分別就在於：它即使在逆境中也承認、讚美全能之神，它不因所擁有的福分而破碎，也不隨外在榮耀的傾倒而跌倒，反倒藉此顯明它在有福分時將是何等光景——就是那沒有福分時反倒更堅強屹立的心思。接著說：
