V ers. 3. – Sustinete me, i ut et ego loquar, et post mea, si j videbitur, verba ridete. 41. Sancti in verbis suis quaerunt auditoribus suis, et sibi prodesse. Superbis auditoribus grave onus est doctrina humilitatis. —l(??)oni et(??)nim, cum loquuntur, duo sunt quae in suis locutionibus attendunt, ut vi- delicet aut sibi et auditoribus suis, aut sibimet solis prosint, si auditoribus prodesse non possunt. Cum enim bene audiuntur bona quae dicunt, sibi simul et auditoribus prosunt. Cum vero ab auditoribus deri- dentur, sibi procul dubio (??) profuerunt, quos a culpa silentii liberos fecerunt. Beatus itaque Job ut sibi et suis auditoribus prosit, dicat:
Verse 3. — 'Suffer me, that I also may speak, and after my words, if it seem good, laugh.' 41. In their words the saints seek to profit both their hearers and themselves. To proud hearers the teaching of humility is a heavy burden. — For good men, when they speak, attend to two things in their utterances: namely, either to profit both themselves and their hearers, or themselves alone, if they cannot profit their hearers. For when the good things they say are well heard, they profit both themselves and their hearers at once. But when they are derided by their hearers, they have without doubt profited themselves, whom they have freed from the guilt of silence. Blessed Job therefore, that he may profit both himself and his hearers, says:
第三節。——「你們容忍我，讓我也說話；我說完之後，若你們看為可笑，就儘管譏笑。」41. 聖人在言語中既求聽者得益，也求自己得益。對驕傲的聽者而言，謙卑的教訓是沉重的擔子。——善人說話時，在他們的言談中注意兩件事：即或使自己與聽者都得益處，或在無法使聽者得益時，至少使自己得益。因為當他們所說的善言被人善加聆聽時，就同時使自己與聽者都得益處。但當他們被聽者譏笑時，他們無疑仍使自己得了益處，因他們使自己脫離了緘默之罪。所以有福的約伯，為要使自己與聽者都得益處，便說：

Et notandum quia dum sub- jungeret Agite poenitentiam, praemisit Audite; cum vero subderet: Post mea, si videbitur, verba ridete, praemisit Sustinete me. Audire quippe volentis est, sustinere nolentis. Amici ergo ejus si doceri appe- (??)unt, audiant; si autem irridere parati sunt, susti- neant quae dicentur, quia videlicet superbis mentibus pondus grave e(??)t oneris doctrina humilitatis. Se- quitur:
'Hear, I pray you, my words, and do penance.' But that he himself may pay what he owes, even if he cannot profit his hearers, he adds: 'Suffer me, that I also may speak, and after my words, if it seem good, laugh.' And it is to be noted that when he was subjoining 'do penance,' he set 'Hear' before it; but when he added 'after my words, if it seem good, laugh,' he set 'Suffer me' before it. For to hear belongs to one who is willing, to endure to one who is unwilling. Therefore his friends, if they desire to be taught, let them hear; but if they are prepared to mock, let them endure what shall be said, since indeed to proud minds the teaching of humility is a heavy weight of burden. There follows:
「我求你們，聽我的言語，並且悔改。」但為使他自己償清所當償的，縱使不能使聽者得益，他仍加上說：「你們容忍我，讓我也說話；我說完之後，若你們看為可笑，就儘管譏笑。」當留意：當他附加「悔改」時，先置「聽」字於前；而當他加上「我說完之後，若看為可笑，就譏笑」時，卻先置「容忍我」於前。因為「聽」屬於甘願之人，「容忍」屬於不甘願之人。所以他的朋友若渴望受教，就當聆聽；但若他們預備要譏笑，就當容忍將要說的話，因為對驕傲的心靈而言，謙卑的教訓實在是沉重的擔子。接著說：
