I bid. — Qui respondens ait: Circuivi terram, et per- ambulavi eum. 65. Qui insidias ejus Deus nobis detegat. — Satanae terram circuire, est carnalia corda perscrutari, et un- de occasionem accusationis invenire possit, exquire- re. Terram circuit, quia humana corda circumvenit, ut bona tollat, ut mala mentibus inserat, ut inserta cumulet, ut cumulata perficiat, ut perfectos in ini- quitatibus ad poenam socios acquirat. Et notandum quod non transvolasse, sed perambulasse se asserit, quia nimirum nequaquam quem tentat velociter de- serit;
Ibid. — Who answering said: I have gone round the earth, and walked through it. 65. May God uncover his snares to us. — For Satan to go round the earth is to search through carnal hearts, and to seek out whence he may find occasion of accusation. He goes round the earth, because he compasses human hearts, that he may take away good things, that he may insert evil things into minds, that he may heap up what is inserted, that he may perfect what is heaped up, that he may acquire those perfected in iniquities as companions unto punishment. And it is to be noted that he asserts himself not to have flown over, but to have walked through, because assuredly he by no means quickly forsakes him whom he tempts;

sed ubi molle cor invenit, ibi pedem miserae persuasionis figit, ut immorando actionis pravae ve- stigia imprimat, et ex suae iniquitatis similitudine, quos valet, reprobos reddat. Sed contra hunc beatus Job laudatur, et dicitur:
but where he finds a soft heart, there he fixes the foot of his wretched persuasion, that by tarrying he may imprint the traces of a depraved action, and out of the likeness of his own iniquity may render reprobate those whom he can. But against him blessed Job is praised, and it is said:
