V ers 15. — Ubi est ergo nunc praestolatio mea? 51. Justorum tot in malis, sola spes Christus. — Quae esse potuit praestolatio justorum, c nisi justos justificans Deus, d qui ad poenas humani generis sponte descenderet, et captivos mortis justitiae suae virtute liberaret? Hujus enim praesentiam minime cessabant intenta cogitatione praestolari: esse e ven- turam noverant, sed venire citius quaerebant. Unde non ait: Ubi est ergo praestolatio mea? sed ait: Ubi est ergo nunc praestolatio mea? [ Vet. XXII.] Dum enim addit nunc, ostendit quia quod quandoque ven- turum erat venire citius desiderabat. Sequitur:
Verse 15.—'Where is now, therefore, my expectation?' 51. Amid so many evils of the just, their only hope is Christ.—What could be the expectation of the just, save God justifying the just, who of His own accord should descend to the penalties of the human race, and by the virtue of His righteousness should free the captives of death? For His presence they by no means ceased to await with intent thought: they knew He was to come, but they sought that He should come more quickly. Wherefore he says not: Where is therefore my expectation? but he says: Where is now, therefore, my expectation? For in adding 'now,' he shows that he desired that which was at some time to come to come more quickly. There follows:
第十五節——「那麼如今我的指望在哪裡呢?」51. 在義人眾多的禍患中,唯一的盼望乃是基督。——義人的指望能是什麼呢?無非是那使義人得稱義的神,就是那位甘願為人類的刑罰降下、憑祂公義之能拯救死亡俘虜的主。因為他們絕不停止以專注的思念等候祂的臨在:他們知道祂必要來,卻求祂更快來到。因此他不說:那麼我的指望在哪裡呢?而說:那麼如今我的指望在哪裡呢?因為他加上「如今」,就顯明他渴望那終必要來的更快來到。接著說:
